Dr David Hughes AM is a Sport & Exercise Medicine Physician with over 30 years’ experience working in sports medicine in Australia and the United Kingdom. Dr Hughes is currently Chief Medical Officer of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee Medical Commission. Sport sector experience includes International Rugby, the National Rugby League, English Premier League football, International Women’s Basketball and Australian Open Tennis. Dr Hughes was Medical Director of the Australian Olympic Team for Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. He is a former President of the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). Key areas of Dr Hughes’ current work include delivering national protocols to address athlete health/safety and ethical/integrity challenges in sport.
