Assoc Prof James Muir

Professor Muir is a dermatologist in private, public and virtual practice.

Director of the Department of Dermatology at the Mater Hospital South Brisbane since 1994 he also works in a private dermatology group practice.

Since 2005 he has provided online educational and consultational services to rural and remote doctors Australia wide.

Jim has a long held interest in medical education and has supervised and mentored over 40 dermatology trainees. He was a censor for the Australasian College of Dermatologists and taught the assessment, dermoscopy and diagnosis subject for the University of Queensland's skin cancer Masters programme for over a decade. He now fills a similar role with Dermatology Australasia. He is a founder of the Australian Skin Cancer Academy.

 Jim has over 70 publications including book chapters. Chair of the Dermatology Medical Assessment Tribunal he is also a provider of medicolegal reports ranging from workers compensation to medical negligence. 

 Jim's areas of interest include early diagnosis, neoplastic skin disease, skin disease in the elderly, medical education, critical analysis of published research and medicolegal issues. He is especially interested in overdiagnosis and overtreatment.
