Professor Rachel Neale is an epidemiologist leading a program of research into skin cancer, vitamin D, and how to balance the risks and benefits of sun exposure. She led the D-Health Trial, one of the world’s largest trials of vitamin D, which has led to greater understanding of the effect of vitamin D on health. She convened a Sun Exposure Summit to consider advice about balancing the risks and benefits of sun exposure, resulting in revised advice that considers the diversity of Australia’s population. She leads the Health Working Group of a United Nations Environment Program Panel that provides advice to the Parties to the Montreal Protocol about the effects of UV radiation on health.
